Financial Assistance for Mesothelioma Families
Because malignant mesothelioma is related to asbestos exposure, many people with the disease have questions about whether or not they have the right to compensation. There are several potential sources of financial assistance and/or compensation for people who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma.

From Manufacturers
You may be able to obtain compensation from companies who knowingly exposed their employees or consumers to asbestos. Often these amounts are large enough to provide financial security for families. Be sure to choose a competent, law firm with experience in mesothelioma litigation that is willing to handle your case on a contingency fee basis so you don't have to pay any legal costs yourself. Read more at What to Look for in a Law Firm.
From Health Insurance
You can speak with the hospital staff member (ask your nurse who handles these issues) designated to assist people who have questions about hospital costs and medical insurance coverage. If you face large medical bills and long hospital stays, you will want an advocate who will manage the often-frustrating insurance claims process on your behalf. In some cases you may also choose to take legal action against your insurance company if they unfairly deny you coverage for your medical treatment.
You may also be able to file a disability claim if you have private disability insurance through your employer or as part of your life insurance policy.
From Social Security
You can file a disability claim with social security. This process can be time-consuming and difficult so you are advised to consult with an attorney who has experience in this area.
From Worker's Compensation
If you were exposed to asbestos on the job, you can file an additional claim for compensation against your employer through worker's
compensation for mesothilioma and asbestosis disease. Again, you should consider speaking with an attorney who handles worker's compensation claims. An attorney who also brings claims against the asbestos industry can help you make sure that filing multiple claims will not challenge the legitimacy of any individual claim.

financial planning during your illness.
From Medicare/Medicaid
If you are over 65 or are disabled, you may get some help from Medicare coverage. Call them at your local Social Security office or the Medicare Hotline, 800-MEDICARE (800.633.4227). If you are also eligible for Medicaid, additional help may come from there (find out from your state or local social services department). More information on Medicaid is available at the U.S. government website for Health Care Financing Administration at http://hfca.gov/medicaid/medicaid.htm
