Mesothelioma insurance considerations
It is always a good idea to understand the benefits available for the type of
insurance you have, but understanding the specifics of a medical insurance plan
become essential when you are diagnosed with mesothelioma. When you enroll in a managed care plan- like an HMO - you usually have to choose a single doctor, a Primary Care Physician (PCP), who is responsible for your care. He or she will handle your routine care and make sure all of your needs are
met - sometimes by referring you to other doctors or specialists. Not all plans,
however, are HMOs. If your plan is a PPO, referrals to mesothelioma or
other specialists are handled differently.
It is very important to understand the provisions of your insurance plans. With a clear knowledge of what various options will cost you, you can make better financial decisions regarding your medical treatment. See Financial Planning. See Your Legal Rights for information about recovering compensation from other sources.
