Mesothelioma Treatment: Non-traditional therapies

You may decide to choose non-traditional treatments as part of your mesothelioma treatment plan. Talk with your doctor, read about your options (see below), speak to others, discuss your alternatives with your family and trust your heart. This is your disease and your life. Make sure you have all the available information first so you can make informed choices about your mesothelioma treatment.

Complementary is the term generally used for medical therapies that are used in addition to traditional treatments. The term "alternative" describes therapies that attempt to treat the cancer itself with approaches that differ from the traditional treatments.

Traditional and complementary therapies are generally considered useful in promoting feelings of well-being and helping people cope with their illness. Some alternative therapies, however, claim to cure or stop cancer growth and for this reason cause concern among traditional cancer specialists.
